PDAA Members Invited to DACOR Discussion on Public Diplomacy and Counterterrorism

DACOR invites PDAA members to a DACOR President’s Round Table with Ambassador Richard LeBaron, founding Coordinator of the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications. Ambassador LeBaron’s discussion is titled “Public Diplomacy as an Instrument of Counterterrorism: A Progress Report.”

This event, sponsored by DACOR, will be held at the DACOR-Bacon House, 1801 F Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, 20 June 2012 beginning at 12:00 pm.

The fee for the event is $20.00. For reservations, please call the DACOR reservation line at (202) 682-0500 ext. 15. DACOR says cancellations made after 9 a.m. the day before an event will be charged the full program price.

Ambassador Richard LeBaron is currently a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Rafik Hariri Center of the Middle East at the Atlantic Council. He. He retired 30 April 2012 after 35 years of public service. In his final assignment, Amb. LeBaron was founding Coordinator of the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications. This interagency body based at the State Department was created to counter the propaganda of al-Qa’eda and its affiliates and to discourage recruits to those terror groups.

Amb. LeBaron served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in London from August 2007 to August 2010, and Chargé d’Affaires during the first six months of the Obama Administration. Previous to his assignment to London, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait from 2004 to 2007. From 2001 to 2004, he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy in Tel Aviv. Amb. LeBaron was Minister-Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Embassy of the United States in Cairo from 1998 to 2001.
