Former Amb. Ford to Give Walter Roberts Lecture

8 November 2014. Amb. Robert S. Ford will discuss current crises in the Middle East, the Obama administration’s strategy in the region, and role of social media and digital diplomacy in this year’s Walter Roberts lecture at George Washington University. Ford’s remarks take place at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, 12 November, at the Elliott School of International Affairs, 1957 E Street NW, in Washington, D.C.

While part of the Walter Roberts lecture series, Ford will present his remarks in a conversation with  Frank Sesno, Director of George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs.Ford is expected to discuss the current crises in Syria and Iraq, the Obama Administration’s strategy for fighting terrorism in the region, and the role of social media and digital diplomacy in the war against ISIS.

The event is free, but registration is required.

Ford served as the U.S. ambassador to Syria from 2010 to 2014. Prior to Syria, he served in Algeria as the ambassador from 2006-2008. He is current senior fellow at The Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C.

The event is part of an annual lecture series sponsored by the Walter Roberts Endowment at GWU’s Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication. The late Dr. Roberts was associate director of the U.S. Information Agency and distinguished figure in U.S. public diplomacy. The endowment supports activities, programming, and scholarship for the study of public diplomacy at GWU.
