18 January 2015. David Ensor, director of Voice of America, will discuss the challenges facing U.S.-funded international media in the time of growing competition and unique crises. The discussion, hosted by George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs and co-sponsored by GWU’s Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication, is held at 6:15 pm on Tuesday, 27 January on the GWU campus.

Ensor will discuss the challenges U.S. government-funded media face in the changing global marketplace of ideas and ideologies, what VOA is doing to reach key audiences and why, and the changing information appetites of people around the world. He will be interviewed by School of Media and Public Affairs director Frank Sesno.

Ensor became VOA director in June 2011, after serving as communications director at the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Ensor previously worked as a reporter or correspondent for National Public Radio, ABC News, and CNN. He was also vice-president for communications at Mercuria Energy Group, an international energy trading and investment company.

The event takes place on Tuesday, 27 January 2015 at 6:15 pm in the School of Media and Public Affairs, 805 21st Street NW, room B07. The event is free, but advance registration is required.
