Forum to Examine Democratic Transitions

27 September 2015. The next First Monday forum examines the experiences of several nations in their transition to democracy, on Monday 5 October at American Foreign Service Association headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The featured speaker is Abe Lowenthal, professor of international relations at University of Southern California. Dr. Lowenthal plans to discuss interviews he held with leaders in Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, and Spain on the influence of clture in their transitions to democratic institutions. The interviews are contained his new book, published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

First Monday forums are a joint project of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy, USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy, and Public Diplomacy Council. The event takes place on Monday, 5 October at 12 noon, at AFSA headquarters, 2101 E Street NW, Washington DC (Foggy Bottom metro). Sandwiches and refreshments will be served.
