(2 February 2016). Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia is seeking an individual for its strategic communications faculty, with areas of interest including public diplomacy. The position, funded by the Marine Corps University Foundation, is the Donald Bren Chair of Strategic Communications, for the 2016-17 academic year.

The chair provides the Marine Corps University a resident scholar with expertise in the theory and practice of strategic communications.  Functional areas of interest include public diplomacy, military public affairs, information operations, crisis communications, and strategic communications planning.  The role of technology, in particular the consequences of rapid advances in information-sharing technologies and social media, will be examined.

In addition to leading seminars at the University’s colleges, the Bren Chair for Strategic Communication teaches a graduate-level elective at the University’s Command and Staff College. The Chair will also assist with developing military leaders through exercises to become confident in media interactions.  The incumbent will be expected to conduct research that will lead to the publication of professional papers, monographs, or a major publication.

The deadline for applications is 19 February 2016. More details can be found at the Chronicle for Higher Education Web site.
