27 June 2015. The next First Monday forum explores country music’s role in U.S. public diplomacy. The program takes place on Monday, 6 July, at American Foreign Service Association headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The speaker is David Firestein, Perot Fellow and Vice President of the East West Institute, who will discuss “Boots and Beer, Hearts and Minds: Country Music as U.S. Public Diplomacy.” Firestein oversees East West Institute’s East Asia and United States Program and Russia and United States Program, as well as the institute’s work on U.S.-Iran trust-building. He served in State Department from 1992 to 2010, including posts in Russia and China. Firestein is the author or co-author of three books on China, including two China-published bestsellers, and the first foreigner to have a column in a PRC newspaper.
First Monday forums are a joint project of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy, USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership and Policy, and Public Diplomacy Council. The event takes place on Monday, 6 July at 12 noon, at AFSA headquarters, 2101 E Street NW, Washington DC (Foggy Bottom metro). Sandwiches and refreshments will be served.
